The Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering is seeking applicants for a one or more years as a postdoctoral research associate position to work on a recently funded National Science Foundation grant: IUSE/PFE RED: Developing Changemaking Engineers #1519453. This position will collaborate with faculty, students, and industry partners to assist in producing and disseminate a model for collaborative change and in redefining the "engineering canon" with the goal of developing "Changemaking Engineers". Our School of Engineering is revolutionizing" engineering education, with the aim of preparing students to innovate engineering solutions developed within a contextual framework that embeds humanitarian, sustainable and social justice approaches with technical engineering skills. It also seeks to infuse professional skills into the curriculum and align these with our institutional context. This requires an enhanced curriculum with a focus on student teamwork, a greater consideration of social and economic factors, improved communication with diverse constituents, and reflection on an ethical understanding of their decisions and solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
∙ Develop and assist in administering survey instruments
∙ Analyze and interpret collected data
∙ Develop case studies and formalizing curriculum consistent with the grant
∙ Preparing project reports related to the RED initiatives
∙ Partnering with stakeholder's forums (industry, community, and students)
∙ Co-constructing Assisting in an industry developed Scholars Program
∙ Preparing workshops related to RED initiatives
∙ Assisting in instruction if appropriate
∙ Collaborate with other RED teams at other universities to develop synergistic opportunities
∙ Anticipated starting date: 7/2017
USD provides a high quality undergraduate education by emphasizing small classes and a high level of faculty-student interaction. The Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering has recently ranked among the top 15 programs at non-Ph.D. granting institutions by U.S. News and World Report. The school currently houses undergraduate degrees in engineering (general with developing focus areas in software engineering, sustainability, and bioengineering), electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and industrial & systems engineering. We also anticipate launching an MS degree in cyber security this year.
A PhD in any engineering or closely related discipline (e.g. Science and Technology Studies) with demonstrated experience in engineering education
Experience developing surveys and instruments, and analyzing and interpreting data
Experience with curriculum development
Experience developing case studies

Salary: Commensurate with experience; Excellent Benefits. This is an 11-month position paid over 12 months.
