Essential Functions:
Under the direction of the Dean, the Project Coordinator /Instructor will provide instruction and coordinate the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program including developing and managing curriculum and national accreditation approval:

  • Assist in the recruitment, development and evaluation of adjunct program personnel;

  • Remain current regarding The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), Occupational Therapy Board of California, Clovis Community College, Title V, and Department of Education policies and grant terms;

  • Oversee the preparation and monitoring of reports relating to the project for the institution;

  • Develop and modify as needed a comprehensive project manual to specify all policies and procedures;

  • Ensure the timely completion of all phases and project objectives as detailed in the project implementation plan;

  • Facilitate the development and implementation of an effective and objective system of evaluation of both the components of the program and their impact on the institution;

  • Oversee, and develop a comprehensive plan to implement an Occupational Therapy Assistant program within the guidelines of the AOTA accreditation requirements;

  • Work in conjunction with various campus constituencies to ensure that new instructional strategies and curriculum are infused to allow for systemic improvements campus wide;

  • Chair the OTA Advisory Steering Committee. Meet with the Advisory Steering Committee and the Dean to update the status of the project and ensure congruence between Title V development and long range development of the college;

  • Maintain primary responsibility for overseeing evaluation, compressing findings into usable reports, and providing a reporting vehicle (newsletter, website report, etc.) to the campus community;

  • Develop and coordinate fundraisers to ensure program longevity;

  • Teach courses in the Occupation Therapy Assistant program and other health related programs;

  • Curriculum and program development and/or revision, including program review and the development and assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs and use the results to improve teaching and learning;

  • Advise students;

  • Participate in college/district committees;

  • Participate in appropriate professional meetings and workshops;

  • Cooperate with regard to scheduling classes between colleagues in the same disciplines;

  • Assist in the advancement of the institutional mission and goals;

  • Perform related duties as assigned; and

  • Fulfill the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Minimum Qualifications:
Any master’s degree AND five years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy.

This experience must include:
  • Clinical practice as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant;

  • Administrative experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting;

  • Understanding of and experience with occupational therapy assistants; and

  • At least 1 year of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level.

OR a valid California Community College Credential;

NOTE: Applicants who possess a valid California Community College Credential must also meet the above requirements.

OR the equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency); AND demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications:
A master’s degree in occupational therapy or graduation from an accredited occupational therapist program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and five years of experience as a occupational therapist.

Knowledge of:
  • Preparation of grant proposals and reports;

  • Budget preparation and control;

  • Oral and written communications skills;

  • Research methods and report writing techniques;

  • Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities;

  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;

  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;

  • Maintain records and prepare reports;

  • Learn, interpret, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules and regulations;

  • Work independently with little direction;

  • Plan and organize work;

  • Develop, and organize fundraisers;

  • Understand and commit to culturally responsive teaching;

  • Communicate with students/employees/public;

  • Read documents;

  • Sit and stand for extended periods of time;

  • Reach in all directions;

  • Lift moderately heavy objects;

  • Operate a computer and office equipment.

Experience in:
  • Occupational therapy clinical practice;

  • Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience in an occupational therapy program;

  • Educational theory, methodology and instructional design and methodology in occupational therapy;

  • Prefer one year of full-time postsecondary educational experience;

  • Student evaluation and outcomes assessments in an occupational therapy program;

  • Administration Occupational Abilities.

Conditions of Employment:
177 duty days.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary is $54,029 - $81,342 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,021 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement. From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview. The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services and College President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
