Posting Summary:
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia is seeking a Research Scientist to work in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology under the supervision of Dr. Daniel W. Lee.

The successful candidate will supervise and perform both basic and translational research aimed at developing novel chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapies for children with cancer. The candidate will generate pre-clinical data in xenografts for CARs that have already been developed and will work with Dr. Lee to design new CARs. Emphasis will be in childhood leukemias and brain tumors (eg: medulloblastoma, diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma). In addition, the candidate will interrogate the cell signaling mechanisms resulting in the supra physiologic activation of CAR T cells with the aim of modulating these signals to control efficacy, proliferation and toxicity. Work will center around human specimens treated on a CAR T cell trial and in immunocompetant murine models.

The incumbent will also be expected to actively participate in lab meetings, present results at national/international meetings and participate in endeavors to publish the results of his/her work.

A PhD or MD is required at the time of hire. Experience performing bench-top and mouse experiments are required. Previous experience in lenti- and/or retroviral vector design is preferred.
