RESEARCH SPECIALIST A
Duties: Member of a team of researchers in a molecular parasitology group within the Department of Pathobiology. Work with and assist other scientists in the study of parasitic diseases using animal and tissue culture models. Primary duties include work with mice in which parasite studies are conducted, assist in engineering of DNA constructs, collection and processing of samples from mice or cell culture for the team in subsequent experiments. Assist with the breeding, handling and euthanizing of mice; amplifying DNA molecules by PCR, using various cloning procedures to generate
DNA constructs, performing cell culture and maintaining records of experiments including engineered molecules and reagents used.
Minor duties include supervision and general laboratory maintenance.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in biology or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 0 to 1 year of experience in a research laboratory with hands-on experimentation preferred.
Animal experience particularly with rodents (skills may include gavage, blood collection and subcutaneous injection). Laboratory experience with basic cell culture and molecular biology knowledge (such as PCR, bacterial culture and gel electrophoresis).
