The Department of Entomology at the University of Kentucky is seeking a broadly trained Public Health Entomologist who will develop an internationally-recognized, externally-funded research program. Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to, the biology, behavior, ecology, epidemiology and integrated control of arthropod disease vectors, vector-host interactions, the transmission of pathogens, risk-evaluation of vector-borne diseases, and effectiveness of vector control programs.

The individual will also collaborate with the Kentucky Department for Public Health to evaluate prevention and control measures for disease vectors, provide education and training on prevention and control of vector borne diseases, and assist in planning public health medical readiness programs. The successful applicant will be expected to secure extramural funding from sources such as NIH and NSF to develop a research and teaching program that complement and enhance existing programs at the University of Kentucky and publish in peer-reviewed journals.

The individual will be expected to participate in undergraduate and graduate education, including co-teaching a Medical Entomology course and developing a course in their area of expertise and mentoring graduate students. Qualified candidates will participate in the graduate training of students, whose interests vary from population management and organismal insect biology to molecular biology and genomics.

This position includes a twelve- month, tenure-track appointment; research (70%), teaching (20%) and service (10%). This position is tentatively scheduled to begin July 1, 2017 or as mutually agreed upon. Application deadline is May 1, 2017 or until a suitable candidate is identified.
