Assistant Professor of Theatre/Lighting Design

COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON is now accepting applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Theatre position in the Department of Theatre and Dance, which begins August 16, 2017. The department is NAST accredited and offers BA degrees in theatre and dance and an MAT in Theatre.

We are seeking a Lighting Designer with a secondary emphasis on Sound Design/Engineering to join our department. Additional areas of specialization are open, but may include: Production Management, Video Design/Production, Props Design & Construction, Scenic Painting.

Responsibilities include teaching courses in lighting, CAD , design fundamentals, sound and related areas, production work including Master Electrician for the season, department committee service, and continued research and professional activity. Other expectations include mentoring student lighting designers on departmental productions and maintaining existing inventory.

Qualifications: MFA in Lighting Design or Theatre Production by August 15, 2017 is required. Prior undergraduate teaching experience is preferred. Successful candidates will possess strong and effective teaching, organizational, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
