Posting Summary:
The Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism is currently seeking a Laboratory Specialist Intermediate to provide advanced scientific and technical support for laboratory based research. The incumbent assumes the role as laboratory manager with responsibilities for overseeing compliance with good laboratory practices as well as maintenance of a number of items of equipment. The incumbent orders laboratory supplies, and performs equipment maintenance. The position is responsible for training undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in biochemical, molecular biologic, and imaging methodologies. The incumbent negotiates with vendors for renewal of service contracts and pricing of new equipment within their assigned limit of authority. The incumbent is responsible for maintenance of equipment inventory and arranging disposal of surplus equipment.

Priority will be given to candidates with the ability to perform and the ability to process plasma containing stable and radio-isotopes of glucose, YSI glucose measurements, mass-spectrometry knowledge for analyses of glucose, cortisol and various other analytes. Use of specialized techniques for analyzing Microdialysate fluid for various isotopes and substances is also preferred.

This position is restricted and contingent on continued funding.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Familiarity with plasma processing techniques.
2. Ability to conduct C2/C5 PCR assays.
3. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
4. Ability to manage and perform research experimentation.
5. Ability to perform data analysis and summarize information.
6. Ability to prepare and present information both in writing and orally.
