The University of Virginia, Department of Chemistry, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the group of Professor James Landers.
The incumbent will perform research to develop technology for a rapid genetic DNA analysis on a microfluidic device. This research involves development and integration of microfluidics and biochemistry assays on the microfluidic scale including DNA extraction, DNA amplification, and DNA separation.
The completion of a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or a related discipline by the appointment start date is required. Candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated experience with, (a) capillary and microchip DNA separation (b) multicolor LIF detection systems for electrophoresis, (c) development of centrifugal microfluidic devices for DNA analysis, and (d) integrated microchip design and fabrication. Candidates are expected to be capable of working on a schedule to deliver results under time constraints. Experience and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary science and directly with an engineering team is strongly desired.
This is a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for an additional two one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
