Unit Job Summary: Responsible for maintaining up-to-date teaching techniques to provide students with a quality educational experience in a high school science class. This includes the development of and execution of advanced biology and chemistry curriculum that focus on inquiry based experiences, multiple levels of material engagement and the use of scientific tools and technology. Science teachers report to their respective Principals and to the Science Department Chair. The Science Department is responsible for the education of students in grades 3 - 12. Teachers are expected to work collaboratively with other teachers in the Science Department to insure that curricula are developmentally appropriate and work synergistically with the high school scope and sequence. The science teacher is also expected to work in collaboration with their own faculty and interact productively with colleagues outside their faculty, other professionals, staff and administrators, and parents. The work year is 178 days (or as stipulated in the Faculty Association contract) and the workweek is 40 hours for full-time teachers. Anticipated start date for this position is 9/1/2017.

Unit Education: Bachelor's degree in a field of science or related required. Biology, biochemistry degree and/or advanced degree in a field of science or related field preferred.

Unit Experience: At least three years of experience teaching in biology or chemistry required, preferably at the high school level. Experience in developing curriculum and teaching advanced classes strongly preferred.
