Theater and Performance Studies Lighting Manager

About The Unit:

Unit Job Summary: General Summary: Onsite mentorship and teaching of student designers and technicians engaged in student performance. During "open light hangs" (20 hours/week) informal teaching light design and implementation as it relates to 35 productions per year, including the two professional productions as well as summer residencies. Supervises one student employee. Supports faculty with regard to course needs, and aiding the professional residencies that occur during the academic year as well as summer months. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 55% - Teaches fifty-plus students yearly in all aspects of theatrical lighting technology, through "on-the-job" training in production work. Holds quarterly workshops in design and implementation. Teaches student lighting designers and production managers to develop and manage show budgets. Trains student summer production interns in working with resident professional companies. 20% - Maintains a safe, friendly, well-stocked working environment for students, staff, faculty, and guest artists. 10% - Attends professional production meetings and collaboratively assist guest artists on productions and residencies through positive response. 5% - Advises students as an organization, as well as individuals entering the profession and post-graduate study; supervises students who engineer, fabricate, and implement scenery, costumes and props for all University Theater productions. 5% - Purchases equipment and supplies for all facets of lighting. 5% - Attends weekly and quarterly staff meetings The position may close as early as June 15th and interviews will be conducted throughout that time.

Unit Education: BA in technical theater and/or theatrical design or 3 years professional experience is required. MFA is desirable.

Unit Experience: Previous and continued professional artistic experienced required.

Unit Job Function Competencies: Physical Requirements: Job requires extensive physical strength and hand-eye coordination; operation of heavy machinery, and sitting at machines for extended periods of time while typing. Mental Requirements: Job requires ability to multi-task under time pressure.
