Unit Job Summary: The Systems and Database Administrator is responsible for providing technical services for the department's relational database environment (MS SQL and ACCESS) including development and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies and providing a long-range perspective of the relationship of database technology to business optimization. Develop tactical and strategic services, identifying and maximizing opportunities to use information technology to improve service, program and reporting. Identify database requirements, analyzing department applications, programming, and operations; for evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems. Recommend solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, proposes specifications and flowcharts, and recommends optimum access techniques. Manage UniFlow Output Manager for print management, billing and maintaining student print budgets. Acts as the point person to maintain relationships with Uniflow, Canon and Onbase programmers. Develops and updates MBA scholarship Access database every year to reflect new data. By utilizing enterprise?wide reporting systems like Business Objects, Cognos, develop various automated tools so unit managers can run various financial and business reports.

Unit Education: Bachelor's degree required; degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Applied Math, Business is preferred. Master's degree in related field preferred.

Unit Experience: At least three years of experience in technology, business process management, business analysis, QA analysis, or financial reporting required. Experience developing database table designs and building database model diagrams using Access and SQL required. Microsoft Access programming, query and reporting experience required. Expansive MYSQL, Visual Basic, VBA scripting, database administration experience preferred. Strong documentation and data mapping experience preferred. Experience with portal, mainframe, hosted software and enterprise systems preferred. Experience with Enterprise class reporting tools (Business Objects, Cognos,etc) preferred.

Unit Job Function Competencies: Strong quantitative and analytical skills required. Strong understanding of relational database concepts and tools required. Ability to extract requirements from business users, write detail specifications and test plans, coordinate with project developers, assist with application testing, train users, and follow through implementation required Professional demeanor including tact, discretion and a customer service-oriented approach to the job required. Ability to exercise good judgment and work under pressure during seasonal high volume is required. Ability to understand and apply IT concepts within the framework of business application and business processes required. Advanced PC skills with MS Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, Word, and Visio) required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Knowledge of financial processes with the ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement preferred. Strong analytical skills in database administration troubleshooting, tuning, rollback and recovery operations preferred.
