Job Description: The research associate reports to the Director of Institutional Research (IR) and assumes responsibility for assignments that support data analysis, reporting, and research functions in the Office of Institutional Planning, Assessment, & Research (IPAR). The scope of the position extends from IPAR to the entire University community. The overall duties of this position entail the management, analysis, and presentation of detailed qualitative and quantitative data that support the informed decision-making needs of the University community. Under this general job function, the position specifically is responsible for: * the selection and use of appropriate statistical methods (and statistical software) for quantitative analyses, including ANOVA, MANOVA, regression, discriminant analyses; decision trees; time-series analyses; smoothing techniques, etc.; * generating student credit hour, headcount, and FTE projections to be used in the UNC system enrollment funding model; * preparing reports, presentations, and data visualizations related to statistical analyses and University data; * creating and revising queries (SQL) to extract records from databases; * responding to ad-hoc requests for information related to institutional research; * documenting business practices including data sources, methods, and standard naming conventions; * following all appropriate protocols in handling confidential, sensitive, and protected data; and * other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: -Master's degree in statistics or a related field; or a master's degree in a social science discipline with strong emphasis on quantitative research skills -Experience conducting the following types of statistical analyses: ANOVA, MANOVA, regressions, smoothing techniques, discriminate analyses, and decision trees -Technical skills necessary to extract data from a relational database -Ability to take direction, work independently, and/or work collaboratively, as situations require -Ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple assignments simultaneously, and be flexible with changing priorities -Strong writing and oral communication skills to communicate effectively to non-technical and technical audiences -Ability to think analytically and to pay detailed attention to accuracy of code and data
