Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History
The Art History Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a one-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History, beginning July 1, 2017.
The successful candidate should be prepared to teach courses that complement the department's current offerings. Possible areas of specialization include Byzantine art, Medieval art, 18th/19th century European art, arts of Africa, or arts of the Islamic world. The ability to teach architectural history within these fields is also desirable.
We are especially interested in candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with diverse student populations. Your cover letter should address the ways in which you incorporate issues of diversity in your teaching, scholarship, and/or service.
At Hamilton College the academic year consists of two semesters. The teaching load for this position is five courses which may include courses at the introductory level, the 200-level, as well as courses at the upper-level reflecting the candidate’s areas of specialization.
A completed Ph.D. in Art History is preferred by the start of employment. The strongest candidates will have college teaching experience, a record of active scholarly engagement in their field, and evidence of creative pedagogy.
