Hamilton College, a highly selective residential, liberal arts college of 1860 students located in scenic central New York State, with an endowment of approximately $900 million, seeks nominations and applications for the position of Controller and Director of Budgets. 

Reporting directly to the Vice President, Administration and Finance, and a core member of the Administration and Finance team, the Controller and Director of the Budgets must be a collaborative leader who will continually strive for excellence in business functions and service to all of its varied constituencies. The Controller prepares and monitors a $185 million annual operating budget involving approximately 90 individual departments and supervisors. The Controller also is an advisor to the College’s Trustees, President, Officers and the Faculty Committee on Budget and Finance on various accounting, financial and budgetary issues. Additionally, this position is responsible for financial reporting; tax compliance; payroll; accounts payable; student accounts and supervision of a staff of twelve.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least seven years of administrative experience in accounting and financial management. The ideal candidate will have worked for a higher education institution and/or an accounting firm with a concentration in non-profit organizations. Preference will be given to those with an MBA degree or CPA certificate. Experience using technology to support and enhance business services, coupled with a strong knowledge of non-profit accounting principles, are required. Candidates must also possess the abilities to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and to juggle multiple projects and priorities.
