As a member of the University Advancement, the Assistant Director contributes to the day-to-day management of the Office of the Vice President's activities with the President's office, Development volunteers and donors.


Role and Responsibilities:
  • Provide editorial oversight and quality control for all of the President's Advancement-related correspondence, briefings, and remarks.
  • Establish and monitor deadlines for completion of the President's Advancement-related correspondence, briefings, and remarks, including coordinating information from multiple units across Advancement.
  • Work closely with front-line fundraising staff to build lists of suggested prospects for possible meetings with the President and/or senior University administrators.
  • Coordinate the development of a campaign volunteer structure in close collaboration with the Vice President for Advancement, the Director in the Office of the Vice President for Advancement, and the Assistant Vice President for Principal Gifts
  • Write and/or edit well-written prospect visit briefings, strategy documents, remarks, and stewardship reports for the Director and Vice President for Advancement.
  • Collect, manage and analyze confidential data and information related to prospect strategy and engagement and annual fundraising goals through such tasks as preparation of reports pertaining to activity, fundraising targets and University initiatives.
  • Serve as coordinator for Capital and Annual Giving donor engagement vehicles such as the Ambassador Program and the Dean's Advisory Council.
  • Serve as secondary prospect manager for all deeply anonymous donors and for the Vice President for Advancement including developing donor approaches and preparing well-conceived and well-written visit briefings, strategy documents, solicitation proposals, and stewardship reports.
  • Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the University and the fundraising initiatives across the institution, as well as Development Office goals and objectives.
  • Undertake special projects and performs other assignments for the Director and Vice President for Advancement
  • Effectively represent Princeton's mission and fundraising initiatives to a variety of constituencies and stakeholders.


Position requires:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least two to five years of professional higher education development-related experience or related work experience.
  • Strong familiarity with Princeton University and its mission.
  • Exceptional written and editorial skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and foster relationships with people at all levels of an organization.
  • Evidence of self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and in teams, with high personal standards representative of Princeton's commitment to excellence.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills necessary to set and monitor progress against goals, to develop plans and timelines, and to measure success toward goals.
  • Discretion, good judgment, and commitment to keep confidential all data related to Princeton and its alumni and donors.
  • Ability to respond quickly to changing business needs and priorities. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to produce high-quality and compelling work product under tight deadlines. Ability to work with a high degree of flexibility in a highly-collaborative, fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends
