Responsibilities

The Interior Design Graduate Program invites applications for a one-third Graduate Assistantship (7 hours/week) for the 2017-2018 academic year. A 1/3 Graduate Assistant works 7 hours per week and receives a waiver of 3 graduate credits each semester of the assistantship. No additional stipend.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting faculty and adjuncts by covering classes when faculty are absent, participating in project critiques, giving lecture(s) in area of expertise, helping proctor exams, and assisting faculty with web pages;
  • Assisting with the preparation of professional reports, assisting in planning and arranging for departmental events, creating and updating fliers and department announcements, publicizing programs and activities for campus and public constituencies; attending departmental events, such as open houses; collecting and organizing student work and other materials;
  • Managing and maintaining graphic equipment for printing and plotting, tutoring interior design students in such areas as CAD , architectural graphics, and the selection of finish materials, etc.;
  • Overseeing student workers in the resource library, maintaining and updating reference materials for the Resource Library, and contacting firms or persons offering samples and picking up samples.

Position begins one week before Fall 2017 classes begin.


Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for a Graduate Assistantship a student must:
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student and be taking at least 6 credits in their final semester of graduate school at Marymount University.
  • Be a post-professional master's student or passed portfolio review if a first-professional student.
  • Have and maintain good academic standing (a GPA of 3.0 or better).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong skills in research, writing, and interpersonal communication.
  • Initiative and ability to work independently, including creative problem solving.
  • Familiarity with technologies commonly used in interior design, such as AutoCAD, Sketch up, Photoshop and Revit.
  • Understanding and having the ability to use the design process to successfully and creatively solve design problems and be willing to help interior design students do this.
  • Able to communicate design ideas orally and in a variety of media and be willing to assist interior design students in learning how to do this.
