POSITION:  Full-time, with faculty rank; 9-month faculty appointment, continuing-status track, in the School of Humanities, Religion, and Social Sciences.

STARTING DATE:  August 2018.  Applications will be reviewed beginning September 1, 2017.


Fresno Pacific University is a Hispanic Serving Institution located in the San Joaquin Valley of California; the population is diverse including a great number of Hispanic young people. This position will contribute to the enrichment and sustainability of the language and culture of the Central Valley, as well as increase the knowledge of Hispanic culture and language for all students. The program makes a significant contribution to liberal arts education, helping students develop language and cultural proficiency in a multicultural context.


The department is looking for an Assistant / Associate Professor of Spanish who can function as a generalist. Possible specialties include Peninsular or Latin American literature. Candidates must be able to teach intermediate and advanced courses which include culture, language, critical theory, and research. The faculty member will be expected to engage in scholarly activity, contribute to ongoing program assessment and evaluation, and advise students.



  • Earned terminal degree in Spanish language, literature, or related field;
  • Record or promise of scholarly achievement;
  • Mentor and advise Spanish majors (as well as general education students);
  • Experience or aptitude for outstanding college-level teaching;
  • Desire to participate in and develop research papers and projects with undergraduate students;
  • Ability to work with students, staff, and faculty in a collegial environment;
  • Commitment to the Christian faith and the university’s mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning, and involvement in a local church.


  • Evidence of scholarly contributions to the field of Spanish language and culture;
  • Understanding of the field of Latin American Studies;
  • Interest and experience in online development for hybrid courses.

COMPENSATION: Dependent on qualifications and experience, and paid out over 12 months. Benefits include insurance (medical, vision, dental, LTD), retirement (TIAA-CREF), Section 125 options.
