Essential functions of this position:
The Business Support Specialist assists with the general accounting duties for Auxiliary Services operations. This position applies a strong working knowledge of fund accounting and university/state financial systems; ensures that all accounting, reporting, and reconciliation functions are performed in accordance with applicable policy while at the same time providing the highest possible level of service to the campus community.
Reporting to the Auxiliary Services Financial Business Officer, position monitors and maintains a wide variety of financial transactions and records for multiple budgets and services. In addition, this position helps prepare the quarterly, mid-year, and fiscal year financial review of all Auxiliary budgets including supporting documents and provides Auxiliary Services managers with analytical analysis to identify budget variances and comparative results to prior periods.
Position will also assist with the day-to-day accounting for financial and business related services including reconciliation of meal plan, parking and transportation related fee revenues along with expenditures and fund balances. Works with Auxiliary operating units to resolve issues that arise from general ledger review and completes journal entries as needed. Additionally, position has responsibility for administering “Revenue Vision” a cloud-based contract and operational software management system designed specifically for the administration and management of higher education auxiliary contracts and self-operated facilities.
N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Proficiency in Excel required
Ability and specialized skills to: review financial documents for accuracy, completeness and validity
Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data and prepare clear and accurate financial statements and reports
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions and recommendations regarding activities
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively within the campus community and working partners, businesses, and agencies outside the unit
Preferred education, professional skills and experience:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a job-related field with
three years of full-¬time, progressively responsible financial record¬keeping experience that has provided the knowledge and abilities listed and thorough knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices
Thorough knowledge of financial record¬keeping methods, procedures, and practices; and general office procedures. Experience using BANNER and Revenue Vision desirable
Prefer Banner/Blackboard Transact/SSRS experience along with finance and accounting background
Recruitment Range: $40,718 - $41,105
NC Salary Grade Equivalency: 65
Hours Per Week: 1.0 (40 hours per week)
