    Our group is seeking an ambitious and highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to perform research on the neurobiological mechanisms underlying nicotine reinforcement and aversion. The applicant will be responsible for the design and implementation of experiments to study neuronal pathways and extracellular signaling factors underlying drug dependence. Investigations will include viral knockdown/reexpression, DREADD/optogenetic manipulations, microvesicle isolation and characterization (e.g., flow-cytometry, RT-qPCR, cell culture and/or miRNA microarray), electrophysiology and intravenous drug self-administration. The overall goal of these investigations is to identify novel mechanisms mediating tobacco/nicotine dependence and potential targets for therapeutic development.     The candidate is required to have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or related area. A successful candidate should also have strong problem-solving, writing and communication skills. Previous experience and proficiency with in vitro neuronal culture, molecular assays, electrophysiology and/or generation of designer viral constructs is also preferred.
