Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NC State Veterinary Health Complex (VHC), established in 1983, is one of the highest rated regional academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina as well as many other states. The mission of the Veterinary Health Complex is three-fold: 1. Compassionate, state of the art specialty health care 2. Expert clinical instruction for 4th year veterinary students from the College of Veterinary Medicine 3. Ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine With over seventeen clinical services staffed by board certified specialists, many of whom are not only nationally but also internationally renowned, the VHC is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care. Each year, nearly 22,000 patients are treated in the VHC. The VHC provides compassionate care, state of the art specialty health care, expert clinical instruction for 4th year veterinary students from College of Veterinary Medicine, and ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine.
Essential Job Duties: The Pharmacy Technician will provide pharmaceutical care for patients in the Veterinary Health Complex (VHC). Specific responsibilities include assisting with prescription processing and compounding, providing pharmaceutical care for outside prescriptions and keeping pharmaceuticals stocked in various protected areas (Omnicell robots) of the hospital for in-house treatment of patients.
Department Required Skills: Basic drug information knowledge base. Basic pharmacy technician skills (prescription processing, compounding, customer service.) Basic computer skills, Microsoft office knowledge. Ability to efficiently rotate from service area to service area (e.g. outpatient to inpatient to compounding to automation). Basic pharmacy technician skills (prescription processing, compounding, customer service). Working knowledge of pharmacy automation equipment and software. Working knowledge and experience with pharmacy compounding, both sterile and non-sterile.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Preferred veterinary knowledge and experience.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
