The University Health Network (Toronto General Hospital) and the University of Toronto are seeking applicants for the position of an academic General Thoracic Surgeon, at a rank of Assistant Professor.
The effective date of this appointment is flexible, tentatively aiming for September 2017.
The University Health Network is a large quaternary care hospital, with state of the art facilities and advanced capabilities in the field of Thoracic Surgery. The Toronto Lung Transplant Program remains a world leader in this dynamic area of Thoracic Surgery.
The successful candidate will be a General Thoracic Surgeon with substantial experience in thoracic surgical oncology, lung transplantation, and extra-corporeal life support. He or she will be expected to function as a Surgeon-Scientist, with 75% time protection for research.
The successful candidate will possess the following credentials: MD and advanced certification in Thoracic Surgery, Fellowship level experience in lung transplantation and esophageal oncology, previous full time research training, ideally with completion of a graduate degree, demonstrable vision in their field of research, and commitment to establishment of an independent research-focused academic career, preferably in the area of genomics, proteomics, or metabolomics, demonstrable clinical interest in one or more of the following areas: thoracic surgical oncology, especially esophageal disease, lung transplantation, and extracorporeal life support. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required.
The successful candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine. The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and must be eligible for academic certification with The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Salary will be between the range of $400,000-600,000, as well as commensurate with qualifications and experience. Estimate based on fee for service billings.
