Title: Staff Psychologist/Training Director

Reports To: Director of Counseling, Health and Disability Services

Status: Full Time, Exempt

Supervises: Pre-Doctoral Interns (Practicum Level) and Post-Doctoral Fellow

General Description:

This position encompasses both clinical and administrative duties. As staff psychologist, this person is responsible for providing individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, as well as crisis intervention, triage and brief therapy. Additionally, this person would also provide outreach to the campus community. As Training Director, this person is responsible for the leadership and management of the Counseling Services’ training program. The Training Director coordinates the provision of supervision and training, evaluates the effectiveness of the training program, and facilitates future planning and development with the training staff. 

Specific Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Provide counseling / psychotherapy for a diverse student population with various cultural backgrounds, both graduate and undergraduate. Includes: providing individual, couples, and group counseling; providing short term, long term counseling, triage, brief therapy, and crisis intervention
  • Provide case management and referrals
  • Provide consultation for students, parents, staff and faculty
  • Direct doctoral trainee internship program and postdoctoral fellowship program. Includes: providing seminars / didactic trainings, scheduling guest speakers for trainings, scheduling participation in relevant conferences, participating in the Northern California Training Directors group, acting as chair of the search committee and arranging the interviews, supervising the clinical experience of the two practicum interns, writing evaluations and liaison with Doctoral Programs
  • Provide individual and group supervision for doctoral trainees. Includes: review and sign off on notes and reports; review of taped video sessions; write mid-year and end of the year evaluations as well as complete evaluations from trainees respective institutions
  • Along with Director, provide trainings and workshops for staff and faculty
  • Along with Director, review and revise Training Manual and other center templates annually
  • Coordinate and provide training for Student Leaders. Includes: Teaching counseling and communication skills, providing follow-up consultation as necessary
  • Coordinate outreach programs and services. Includes helping to develop and promote psycho-educational workshops for students on topics such as stress management, healthy relationships, alcohol use and abuse, and depression
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders
  • Remain “on-call” for crisis intervention
  • Participate as a team member in the Division of Student Affairs   

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology, preferably from an APA accredited program
  • Three years of postdoctoral experience that includes clinical training duties, counseling-related responsibilities, clinical supervision, administrative or teaching responsibilities
  • Clinical skill in providing short term, long term, crisis counseling; triage and case management; group psychotherapy; individual and couples therapy
  • Minimum of 3 full-time equivalent years’ experience providing clinical supervision to graduate student trainees as a licensed psychologist
  • Strong administrative, interpersonal, oral and written skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical training program management and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups
  • Experience and skill in consulting with professional colleagues and staff
  • Demonstrated commitment to multiculturalism and experience with diverse populations on a university campus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College Counseling experience a plus
  • Experience with EHR programs like Point and Click or Titanium
