Definition

Golden West College is currently seeking a temporary, full-time Barbering Instructor. The primary teaching assignment involves instruction in barbering.

 

The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off campus and is subject to change as needed. The ideal candidate for this position embraces the overall mission of Golden West College and the Coast Community College District, with a clear, focused commitment to supporting teaching and academic excellence, and student learning and success through the work of barbering.

 

Performance Responsibilities: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Instruct assigned day or evening lecture and lab classes that may include any subject taught in any of the six (6) levels of instruction in Barbering courses.

2. Participate in curriculum development and implementation.

3. Contribute to developing hands-on instructional strategies, which reflect current industry standards and practices and prepare students to successfully pass state licensure requirements and tests.

4. Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member including, but not limited to the following: teach all scheduled classes; follow the department course outlines; keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and progress; post and maintain scheduled office hours; participate in departmental meetings and college and/or district wide activities and committees as assigned.

5. Work effectively as part of a team in a considerate manner and with a sense of responsibility toward students, curriculum, classroom management protocols, decorum, and care and maintenance of shared equipment and facilities.

6. Assignment may include evening and weekend hours.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Must meet one of the following qualifications under (a) through (d):

 

Possess the California Community College Teaching Credential for this subject area.

Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution, plus two years of professional experience.

Possess an Associate's degree from an accredited institution, plus six years of professional experience.

Or, possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above. Candidates who do not meet the minimum requirements stated above and are applying on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency (downloadable at www.cccd.edu/employment) and supporting documents, in addition to all other required materials.

2. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. 

 

Additional Required Qualification:

1. Possession of a valid California State License in Barbering.

 

Conditions of Employment

This is a temporary, full-time (210 days per year) one-year contract assignment. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off-campus and is subject to change as needed; some flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.

 

Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.

Salary:

Salary range based on the 2016-17 Cosmetology Q2 Salary Schedule. A maximum starting range of $59,222 to $100,969 is offered, based on the 2016-2017 salary schedule of $59,222 to $141,197. In addition, an annual stipend of $2,878 is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution. The District provides medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee

 

Pay Philosophy: 

All movement on the salary schedule will occur July 1 of each year for all eligible employees.
