The Department of Justice, Law and Public Safety Studies at Lewis University, invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty member who will also serve as department chair.  This position is at the Assistant Professor rank, however Associate rank will be considered for the right candidate. The Department of Justice Law and Public Safety Studies at Lewis University offers Undergraduate Programs in Criminal Justice, Forensic Criminal Investigation, and Paralegal Studies.  It also offers M.S. degrees in Criminal Justice and Public Safety Administration.

Primary Responsibilities:

Teaching

  • Teach one course per semester in one of the degree programs offered by the department

Department Chair

  • Promote academic integrity
  • Administer College and University polices/regulations
  • Supervise instruction, evaluations of student performance, learning outcomes and preparation of syllabi
  • Coordinate curricular changes in cooperation with department faculty
  • Coordinate scheduling of classes
  • Coordinate advising of all majors and minors
  • Respond to grade appeals and student complaints
  • Coordinate assessment projects and program review in consultation with the College and the University
  • Budget and management of expenditures
  • Supervise and evaluate faculty, program directors, and staff
  • Coordinate faculty meetings
  • Build mutually beneficial interdisciplinary relationships with other Departments and/or colleges and with external partners
  • Establish and maintain articulation agreements with colleges and universities
  • Establish and maintain relations with other external partnerships

Minimum Requirements:

Doctorate degree in Criminal Justice or directly related field. Prior teaching experience in higher education. Prior academic leadership experience as program director or department chair. Prior work experience in the criminal justice field.
