Position Summary

Leadership in Antimicrobial Resistance Research.

Michigan State University aims to develop prominence in combating the global threat of antimicrobial resistance by major investments in multidisciplinary hires of up to eight new faculty investigators across all academic ranks (Assistant Professor to Professor). With a remarkable scope of research in a wide range of disciplines and colleges, Michigan State offers an outstanding environment for carrying out basic and translational research on antimicrobial resistance from all perspectives.

Academic homes in any of several Departments and Colleges at Michigan State are expected, including Plant, Soil & Microbial Sciences; Microbiology & Molecular Genetics; Medicine (Infectious Diseases); Pediatrics; Pharmacology & Toxicology; Large Animal Clinical Sciences; Chemistry; Food Science and Human Nutrition; Biomedical & Biosystems Engineering. Research areas of interest will include environmental and human health risk-assessment of antimicrobial resistance; evolution of resistance; horizontal transmission of resistance traits; infectious threats from resistant microbes in humans and animals; behavior of antimicrobial agents in the environment; the international dimension of antimicrobial resistance; identification of novel therapeutic targets; drug development. These areas complement existing strengths from public policy to drug discovery. Competitive startup and salary packages are available for these positions.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D., D.V.M., or M.D. or equivalent advanced degree(s) and, for senior-level applicants, an internationally recognized research program.
