A postdoctoral fellow is being sought for participation in research projects designed to determine the etiology and pathogenesis of a variety of reproductive tract diseases, infertility, and/or cancer. A multitude of experimental approaches that includes protein biochemistry, in vitro cell culture, cell sorting, and in vitro animal modeling will be used to. Training will be provided in techniques as needed. The research associate will also be trained and participate in collaborative experimental design and execution, analysis of data and scholarly communication of results for publication in peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences. This position is located in the highly collaborative environment in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Biology, College of Human Medicine, at Michigan State University. This is an entry-level position for postdoctoral study. It requires a doctoral degree in biological science, with a background in reproductive biology, developmental biology, or cancer biology preferable. The successful candidate should have a basic understanding of standard molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell culture techniques, although other skill sets will also be considered on an individual basis. Basic experience in data generation and handling, data interpretation, documentation of laboratory procedures and results, experience employing standard computer software is necessary. Good command of written and spoken English is a determining factor.
A candidate with knowledge, understanding and/or experience with mouse husbandry, protein analyses (e.g. Western blotting, ELISAs, viral transduction approaches to manipulating expression levels), next generation sequencing, microscopy (fluorescence and brightfield), tissue culture, and/or flow cytometry is preferable. Knowledge of tissue sectioning and immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence are highly desired. The successful applicant should be proficient with basic statistical analyses as would normally be expected for biomedical research.
