LAB RESEARCH ANALYST I

(Macromolecular X-Ray Crystallography Lab)

We are seeking a qualified and talented Research Analyst I to support operations in the macromolecular x-ray crystallography lab. The primary overall responsibility of the position will be to support protein expression and purification for structural aims. The secondary responsibility will be to assist users of the x-ray core lab in performing their crystallography experiments.

Responsibilities
  • Perform the expression of proteins in commonly used systems (E coli, insect, HEK).
  • Perform purifications that involve typical methodologies (IEX, SEC) and may occasionally involve the generation of specialized media for affinity chromatography.
  • Assist in managing laboratory space by keeping a well-stocked inventory and maintaining equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory notebook and other documentation in an orderly and accurate fashion for tracking work progress, experiments, and results.
  • Manage biological and chemical hazards in the lab -- MSDS's, chemical inventories, waste disposal, autoclaving, etc. as required.
  • Provide a summary of written work updates and plans each week.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator and laboratory leadership.


Education, Skills, & Experience Requirements
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in scientific discipline, health or physical sciences or a related filed; Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum two years of relevant research experience.
  • Experience in protein expression and purification.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
