Job description

Duties: The candidate will design and conduct molecular genetic experiments involving human adipose tissue samples, related to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and the metabolic syndrome. The ideal candidate will have conducted research in gene regulation, genomics, and/or epigenetics, in particular studies using next generation sequencing methods. Experimental procedures include processing human tissue and blood samples to generate RNA, DNA, and protein, and most importantly construction of libraries for next generation sequencing methods including ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, and ATAC-seq. The candidate should be able to independently troubleshoot these methods, which may be challenging and require optimization in human adipose tissue. Other techniques include may include quantitative PCR, molecular cloning, cell culture, western blots, and various biochemical assays. Careful tracking and record-keeping of samples using electronic databases are a must. The position also requires performing routine laboratory management duties, including ordering of supplies and equipment maintenance. Candidate must be self-motivated and able to work independently with direction from an immediate supervisor.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree and 3 years to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Lab experience, general lab management and ordering are strongly preferred.
