Senior Professional Research Assistant

The Adult and Child Consortium for Health Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS) has an opening for a full-time Senior Professional Research Assistant (Sr. PRA). This position will manage clinical research projects located in the Cardiovascular Outcomes group and Shared Decision Making core, under the supervision of Larry A. Allen, MD, MHS and Daniel D. Matlock, MD, MPH. The Sr. PRA assists in all phases of study design (e.g., literature reviews, grant writing, budget preparation), implementation (e.g., developing human subjects protocols and project materials, data collection and tracking, practice recruitment, budget administration and tracking, as needed) and dissemination (e.g., creating presentations, writing final reports/manuscripts). The ideal candidate will have experience managing federally funded research grants, experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, and strong interpersonal skills needed to work with key partners in the community and at participating practices. The incumbent in this position may assist with supervising PRAs, students, and/or contractors as needed.

Tasks assigned for research studies include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in all phases of study design and implementation of evaluation and research protocols
  • Project planning, including developing scope of work, identifying project tasks and timelines, designing protocols, and identifying prospective problems
  • Manage all phases of research studies, including project implementation, budget development and administration, maintain project files, report writing, recruitment of subjects, managing participant incentives, and preparation of project materials
  • Plan and facilitate research team meetings
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with project stakeholders
  • Prepare IRB application materials and other regulatory compliance materials, including full protocols, surveys, advertisements, CVs, protocol applications, amendments, and continuing reviews
  • Conduct quantitative data collection, entry and analysis
  • Conduct qualitative research activities, including guide preparation, interview and focus group facilitation, and analysis
  • Collaborate with project analysts for data analysis and results preparation
  • Develop and manage databases
  • Develop research tools, including surveys
  • Collaborate with team to develop, test, and implement decision-making tools
  • Conduct literature searches and systematic reviews
  • Conduct grants coordination and management of submissions and awards
  • Assist with grant writing and preparation of proposals (federal and private foundation applications)
  • Consult with project members and clients to develop and implement activities
  • Oversee student workers and/or other research assistants who assist with project activities
  • Initiate and/or lead development of abstracts/presentations for aspects of project of interest, as appropriate
  • Creative development and problem solving for projects and studies
  • Some administrative tasks required for project management and completion


  • Ability to work as a team member and work effectively with diverse people
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and maximum accountability
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with all software in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint or presentation software and Outlook. Advanced experience with the Internet and conducting Internet searches
  • Versatility and the ability to operate effectively and efficiently according to the needs and demands of concurrent projects
  • Detail oriented to produce reports and data analysis without supervision
  • Great time management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously


  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Communications, Public Health or a related discipline; or commensurate experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in a research environment
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook, Atlas.ti and/or other qualitative software programs), and experience conducting Internet searches and literature reviews
  • Project management experience, preferably in a research/evaluation capacity
  • Previous experience in research/evaluation project management, qualitative and quantitative data collection, data management and analysis.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Versatility and the ability to operate effectively and efficiently according to the needs and demands of concurrent projects
  • Ability to work as a team member and work effectively with diverse people
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and maximum accountability


  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Aptitude to learn analytic and other software as needed.
  • Previous employment in a university environment
  • Experience with reference management software
  • Past experience working on federally funded project
  • Experience managing multi-site clinical studies
  • Experience submitting protocols to an Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  • Experience working on federally funded projects
  • Experience collecting qualitative data including interviews
  • Experience collecting quantitative data
