General Summary of Position:
The University of Massachusetts Lowell invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice Provost for Faculty Success. Faculty members who are tenured at the rank of full professor in any discipline are invited to apply. Located 30 miles north of Boston, in a rejuvenated former mill city, the university has enjoyed dramatic growth in research funding, private giving, and student enrollment over the past eight years. It is a Carnegie Classification Doctoral University - Higher Research Activity and conducts more than $65 million in sponsored research annually.

Reporting to the Provost and a member of the Provost's senior management team, the Vice Provost for Faculty Success provides leadership in the execution of an integrated innovative approach to academic quality, attraction, retention, workload assessment, and the development of faculty and provides leadership in equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives. The Vice Provost oversees the entire faculty lifecycle across all schools and colleges including, but not limited to, faculty onboarding, orientation, mentoring, professional development, scholarly advancement, retention, promotion & tenure, scheduling of sabbatical and other leaves, faculty enhancement opportunities and recognition events. S/he assists in facilitating the faculty promotion and tenure process and the approval and administration of sabbatical and other leaves. The Vice Provost will review and advise the Provost on the status of department and deans' annual workload assignments and annual evaluations, warnings and sanctions for unsatisfactory performance, merit increases, salary reviews, and periodic multi-year review of faculty and librarians. The Vice Provost for Faculty Success will perform workload capacity and demand analyses. S/he will oversee stewardship of faculty awards, including University Professor and nominations for national awards. S/he will also perform analyses related to advancing the university's national rankings. Working closely with the Office of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Outreach, the Vice Provost will be responsible for assisting in ensuring compliance with union contracts, facilitating informal resolution of faculty concerns, and responding to formal grievances and disciplinary actions. The Vice Provost for Faculty Success is also responsible for orientation and collaborating with faculty unions regarding best-practices workshops and training for departmental chairs. S/he also assists the Provost in oversight of the campus libraries, and collaborates with the Offices of Informational Technologies and Institutional Research for oversight and continual enhancement of instructional technology and software to assist faculty and student success. The Vice Provost for Faculty Success will serve as a liaison to the faculty unions and the faculty senate.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
Successful candidates will have:

-An established record of excellence in teaching and scholarly productivity and proven record of academic accomplishment appropriate for appointment at the rank of tenured full professor with a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in his/her discipline.
-Three or more years of successful administrative experience and/or faculty governance experience in a college or university, and demonstrated experience in mentoring faculty to scholarly success, achievement and national recognition.
-Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, collaborate and work cooperatively with multiple constituencies, both internal and external.
-Demonstrated experience managing the faculty hiring process, faculty mentoring and the tenure and promotion process.
-A record of leadership accomplishments in a collegial environment and the ability to execute successfully on key decisions.
-Demonstrated ability to foster a positive climate consonant with the University's efforts to promote diversity and inclusion.
-Demonstrated administrative experience in a unionized academic setting.
