About the Position

The Associate Director for Residential Life is responsible for the programming and budgeting necessary to anticipate and meet the academic, social and cultural needs of campus residents and for facilitating the most conducive living environment for student educational growth and personal development. As the manager for the University Housing Residential Life program, the Associate Director is responsible for the general supervision and coordination of activities, programming, personnel, and budgeting for the residential program, as well as the coordination of functions, which have a direct impact on the residential program.

The Associate Director has full responsibility for the overall development and management of a comprehensive Residential Life Program for students residing in University Housing. The program currently includes the operation of four residence halls housing approximately 2,300 students and the management of two university student apartment buildings housing approximately 1,700 students. The Associate Director is responsible for an operating budget of approximately $2 million dollars, up to 4 Administrators, 9 full time professionals (Unit 4), 1 full time professional (Unit 7), up to 15 Faculty In Residence and 150 - 200 student staff. The Associate Director is responsible for anticipating future housing trends and accommodating those trends programmatically as well as through the initiation of supplemental housing bed spaces. This involves creative and complex collaboration with a variety of entities including but not limited to campus departments and auxiliaries and the CSU Chancellor's Office.

The Associate Director collaborates closely with other managers regarding student support and event planning, food services, academic services, emergency preparedness, security, ethical development and conduct, counseling services, and any other functions which are necessary to maintain a high level of service, occupancy and maintenance.

This is a position in the CSU - Management Personnel Plan (MPP), and serves at the pleasure of the President. This position will require adherence to University compliance training such as: Conflict of Interest and Ethics, AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention, Information Security, and Injury and Illness Prevention Program. The person hired for this position may be required to complete an outside employment disclosure statement in accordance with Title V of the California Code of Regulations.
