Assistant Professor, Advertising

Department of Mass Communication and Communication Studies

College of Fine Arts and Communication

The College of Fine Arts and Communication invites applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor position in advertising and a master’s program in communication in the Department of Mass Communication and Communication Studies beginning August 2017.


PhD in the field of advertising/mass communication, demonstrated success as a classroom teacher with full responsibility for teaching at least two courses in the area of advertising at the university level, and demonstrated success in research productivity with published articles in peer-reviewed journals.


Teach courses in the undergraduate program in advertising and the graduate program in communication. Teach two or more undergraduate courses among media planning, international advertising, social media, principles of advertising, and research methods. Graduate teaching responsibilities include quantitative research methods and others in the candidate’s area of expertise. Undergraduate advising is part of teaching responsibilities. Also expected to supervise student theses and research projects. Scholarly research productivity, programmatic assessment activity, and service to the department, college and university are expected.

The Department:

The department ( offers a major in Communication Studies and a major in mass communication with tracks in journalism and new media, advertising, and strategic public relations and integrated communication. A master’s degree in communication management is offered. The department annually enrolls approximately 1,200 majors served by 30 full-time and 40 part-time faculty.
