Position Summary: The Associate Director of Development (Associate Director) for Centers and Institutes will serve as a major gift officer for and liaison to centers and institutes housed in the Provost's office and the office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. Reporting to the Director of Development for Constituent Programs, the Associate Director will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects and donors at the major gift level of $100K and more; maintain an active portfolio of 100-125 qualified individual prospects and donors; and set and meet activity goals typical of a university-wide major gift fundraiser. The incumbent will engage and motivate donors through the use of volunteers, as well as faculty, administrator and staff partners; utilize existing and plan donor-focused fundraising and stewardship events, as they relate to major gift prospects and donors; and foster pan-university development collaboration between University Development Office, Schools and Units and the Centers and Institutes. Under the guidance of the Director of Development for Constituent Programs and in collaboration with the Executive Director of Development and center and institute leadership, the Associate Director will design and implement comprehensive strategies to grow private support of the centers and institutes. He or she will provide strategic advice, consultation and serve as a liaison to directors of assigned centers and institutes, and their development liaisons; set and meet fundraising goals as well as goals for programmatic growth of development efforts; and partner with University Development colleagues to identify and provide appropriate services to grow fundraising results and donor constituencies. Local and regional travel, evening and some weekend work are required.
Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree required, Master's preferred.
Qualification and Experience: Five to ten years of experience in major gift development or closely related field. Successful track record in comprehensive campaign fundraising in higher education is preferred. Strong verbal and written communications skills. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and judgment. Ability to interact effectively in comprehensive environment such as a research university setting with donors, faculty, staff and volunteers.
