Context of the Job:
The Center for Research in Education and Social Policy (CRESP) at the University of Delaware conducts research and evaluation to evaluate the implementation and impacts of programs and policies designed to improve the academic achievement, health, and well-being of children, youth, adults and families. CRESP seeks an Associate Director to lead team efforts to design and conduct evaluation projects and field research, to develop ideas and pursue support for new projects, and to collaborate with UD faculty on these projects. The position is a professional position with a secondary faculty appointment possible in the School of Education or Human Development and Family Studies. Teaching is not required.
Designs, manages, and conducts educational policy research and program evaluations in collaboration with school districts, policy makers, and University of Delaware faculty. Oversees the execution of research designs while supervising other professional staff members, and graduate research and undergraduate student assistants. Strategic responsibilities for the new Associate Director include identifying opportunities for new projects, building collaborative teams of researchers and faculty, recruiting research participants and negotiating access to research sites, identifying funding opportunities, leading proposal development, creating and managing budgets, and interacting with potential funders. Research activities include study design, survey and interview protocol design, quantitative and qualitative data collection and analyses, report writing, and writing academic manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Prepares and presents results to clients on a timely basis as appropriate to project needs and research design. Participates in relevant regional and national professional associations.
PhD or EdD with an emphasis in program evaluation, education policy, measurement, statistics, and 5 years of experience, or the equivalent combination of training and experience. The ideal candidate will have 10 years or more of mixed methods evaluation experience. The candidate must be able to work with a wide variety of stakeholders including, but not limited to, legislators, educational policy makers, State Department of Education personnel, district staff, building administrators, classroom teachers, parents, and students in both professional and community settings. Further, the ideal candidate should have expertise and demonstrated capabilities in one or more educational or social policy subject matter areas.
Excellent communication skills are required. The Associate Director must be able to work with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds and experience; possess excellent computer skills and background to create and maintain databases, conduct statistical and content analyses, write reports, and prepare professional presentations; be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously; be a team player comfortable leading project teams and adhering to strict timelines.
This position will require local travel several days per month and national overnight travel to conferences is likely 1 to 2 times annually.
