The University of Virginia is undergoing a large restructuring of Human Resources. This initiative is called the Ufirst Project and more information about it can be found here: https://ufirst.virginia.edu/. The project will be ongoing for the next 2-3 years, requiring some HR staff to be redeployed to work on the project. As a result, there is a need for temporary help in Human Resources throughout the University to backfill some of these roles.
The School of Medicine is the largest School at the University with 31 centers and departments and over 2500 faculty and staff. It is part of a complex Health System. While this posting is assigned to the School of Medicine, it is possible that other areas at the University may partner on this search and hire in their organizations. Because the Ufirst Project will result in continuously changing needs, it is possible someone may be hired into one area and in the future be reassigned to another.
The HR Professional's duties will be largely related to their credentials and experience. Duties could include anything from catching up on scanning personnel files to providing frontline HR services to assigned departments. The incumbent may act with delegated authority on behalf of the institution after training. While at first the incumbent will work on small projects to gain exposure, in time and after training, the work may touch compensation, classification, recruitment, orientation, organizational planning and reporting.
The qualified candidate will have a bachelor's degree or equivalent of 8 years of directly related HR experience. One year of HR experience is required; student/internship experience in HR or graduate education may substitute for required year of experience.
Preference will be given to individuals with exposure to multiple HR specialties, HR certification, knowledge of employment law and policy, or previous experience in higher education.
Some positions may be required to work occasional evenings and/or weekends. Positions are usually 40 hours per week but consideration may be given to individuals wanting to work 32-40 hours per week.
This position has an anticipated end date of June 1, 2018.
This position is a full time, restricted salaried position, which is limited in duration, but includes full benefits.
