The University of Colorado, College of Nursing, is seeking a Medical Physician with experience in primary care or internal medicine, for a part-time position (up to 0.5FTE) within its federally qualified community health center, Sheridan Health Services, Inc. (SHS). This position practices and provides consultation within this Advanced Practice Nurse led clinic setting; and offers a rare opportunity to provide a vitally important service in a medically under-served area of Denver. Although this position is housed and works daily in our clinic, this MD position includes an Assistant Professor ranking level, clinical teaching track, appointment within the College of Nursing.

Clinic Description:

Sheridan Health Services, Inc. (SHS) is a multi-site, nurse-managed federally qualified community health center, funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Bureau of Primary Healthcare; and is a collaborative effort between the College of Nursing and the Sheridan School District. There are now ~35 employees at two convenient locations to serve community health needs primarily for residents of Sheridan, Englewood, and North Littleton. A school-based clinic is located in Sheridan Middle School. The community health center is located on the Fort Logan campus and provides services to adults. Services offered include primary care across the lifespan; prenatal and postpartum care, gynecology, dentistry, pharmacy, behavioral health, and outpatient substance abuse treatment. We extend the reach of the clinic through public health outreach where nursing students provide community outreach, health education, and additional services.

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Performs accurate physical examinations, evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, follow-up, and consultation; develops comprehensive plan of care.
  • Provides consultation on medical issues and patient cases as needed for Advance Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants
  • Mentors newly hired Advanced Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants
  • Assess and provide clinical training for department or staff, as needed
  • Serves as the lead physician of SHS' health care teams
  • Directly treats and manages patients who are medically beyond the scope of practice for SHS' Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants
  • Participates in after-hours call
  • Practices safety, environmental, and infection control methods
  • Provides leadership in design and implementation of integrated, interprofessional models of care delivery and evaluation of patient outcomes
  • Participates in programmatic planning, developing specific evidence-based health policies and procedures
  • Completes necessary documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure strict compliance with University and professional policies/procedures.
  • Adept at Electronic Health Record (EHR) and EHR trouble shooting, improvement processes, and downtime procedures.
  • Functions as a clinical preceptor and/or clinical instructor for nursing, pharmacy, and medical students
  • Active participation in health plan contracts.
  • Remains credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.
  • Performs a variety of job-related duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements:
  • Must be able to document proficiently in an electronic health record
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in integrated health system
  • Must be able to proficiently perform within a system designed to implement integrated, interprofessional models of care delivery and evaluation of patient outcomes
  • Culturally competent
  • Active participation in health plan contracts.
  • Remains credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited school of medicine
  • Current Board certification
  • State MD Licensure, in good standing (Must have CO licensures by date of hire. Could be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies.)
  • Experience in primary care inclusive of all specialty areas
  • Specialty areas may include family practice, adult, pediatrics, internal medicine, OBGYN and geriatrics.
  • Prescriptive Authority & DEA Licensures
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Qualified for rank of Assistant Professor, Clinical Teaching Track
  • A minimum of 1 year experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experiences working with low-income populations within a community health center
  • Experience working in a FQHC
  • Experience working in an integrated healthcare clinic
  • Spanish speaking
