The University of Colorado Department of Anesthesiology, in conjunction with the University of Colorado Hospital, is actively recruiting for a full-time Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, Medical Director of Pre-Procedure Services. This role will be responsible for fostering the mission and vision of a swiftly growing Anesthesiology Pre-Procedure Clinic that conducts upwards of 4700 clinic visits per year. Additionally, this role will be expected to work closely with the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and the Medical Director of Perioperative Services to develop a state-of-the-art perioperative home, responsible for ensuring efficiency, quality, fiscal sustainability, and providing world class patient care. This position will spend approximately 60% time in Pre-Procedure Services and 40% time as an attending Anesthesiologist in the ORs. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
When supervising trainees, an attending anesthesiologist meets the following conditions to demonstrate sufficient personal and identifiable medical services to the patient to exercise full, personal control over the management of anesthetic care. The Medical Director of Pre-Procedure Services/attending anesthesiologist must as a minimum:
- Manage staff of the Pre-Procedure Services Unit, responsible for performance planning, evaluation, and disciplinary action if necessary.
- Be fiscally and operationally responsible for the success of the unit.
- Work with Hospital and Department leadership to drive the innovation of the Pre-Procedure Clinic and the Perioperative Home.
- Review the patient's history and the record of examination and tests.
- Personally examine the patient.
- Confirm or revise the diagnosis and determine the course of treatment to be followed.
- Either perform the physician's services required by the patient or supervise the treatment so as to assure that appropriate services are provided by residents or anesthetists and that the requirements for medical direction and/or teaching physicians are met.
- Be present and ready to perform any service performed by an attending physician in a non-teaching setting.
- Be recognized by the patient as his personal physician.
The attending anesthesiologist may be required to perform these services in the operating room, in the labor and delivery area, in radiology, and in some special procedure areas. Except in specific emergency situations, the administration of anesthesia is limited to areas where anesthesia can be given safely. One or more attendings will be available at all times to provide these services. Since attending anesthesiologists in this department are also faculty members of the School of Medicine, they are also expected to contribute to the teaching needs of the Department and the School. This may include, but is not limited to preparing and delivering lectures, serving as a preceptor, and providing one-on-one instruction. Attending anesthesiologists as faculty members are also expected to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the specialty by way of clinical or laboratory research.
All attending anesthesiologists must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado. All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists ("board eligible") or a Diplomat of the Board, or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
