The Department of Physics at the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) invites qualified candidates to apply for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in areas of computational and/or theoretical physics that connect with ongoing interests of the department. This includes condensed mater/soft matter physics, high-energy and particle astrophysics, optical biophysics, superconducting magnetic sensors, non-linear dynamics, and fluid mechanics. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a sustainable research program, to include undergraduates in research projects, and to supervise independent student projects.
CU Denver is one of three institutions within the University of Colorado system. Our urban campus is located in the heart of the city's commercial, cultural and recreational districts. We have positioned ourselves to be one of the top urban research universities in the country. Additionally, our downtown campus merged twelve years ago with the Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz) to become one integrated university. The inclusion of CU Anschutz allows faculty to conduct interdisciplinary work in biomedical/health related research. The Carnegie Foundation has classified CU Denver as RU/VH: Research Universities (very high research activity).
The Physics Department currently has four full-time tenure-track faculty members along with instructors, clinical faculty, and lecturers. Successful candidates will join a small but growing department committed to undergraduate research experiences, with connections to the interdisciplinary Master's program in Integrated Sciences and with plans to develop a graduate certificate program. The Department currently offers B.S. degrees in physics with tracks in Pure & Applied Physics and Biophysics/Medical Physics. The Physics Department is orientated towards applied research and builds upon connections with Colorado's many research centers, including CU Anschutz, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

- A successful candidate must: have earned a Ph.D. in Physics (or a closely related field) prior to appointment
- Have completed at least one postdoctoral experience (or equivalent)
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to students and to teaching across the Physics curriculum
- Demonstrate the ability to develop a research program that includes external grants and/or industrial collaboration
- Have high-quality communication and interpersonal skills.
- A successful candidate should:
- Be broadly trained
- Have potential for successful interaction with students from diverse multi-cultural backgrounds (e.g.,international and underrepresented minorities)
- Have potential for successful interaction with non-traditional students (e.g., working students with families) in an urban university setting
- Have a serious commitment to undergraduate education, including the ability to teach a wide range of courses at the undergraduate level for both majors and non-majors.
