Data Analyst

The Department of Emergency Medicine has an opening for a professional research assistant (PRA). This position will have a strong focus on electronic medical record (Epic) queries, data management and data analysis. The job locations will include the Emergency Department and inpatient units at UCHealth and office buildings on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado and can include the Emergency Departments at the Denver Health, VA and UCHealth.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • collaborating with UCHealth providers and staff, faculty, analysts and other institutions
  • assisting with analysis, including coordinating logistics, implementing protocols for data collection, and conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis
  • creating and managing research databases and performing data entry
  • assisting with the writing up of results for manuscripts and presentations
  • abstracting data from patient charts and electronic medical records

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Work with biostatistician to prepare data analysis
  • Collect, organize and analyze data from a variety of sources
  • Communicate and establish relationships with nursing and clinical staff at UCHealth
  • Create and manage databases
  • Organize data collected and manage transmission to central databases


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organization, analytical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with large amounts of data - facts, figures and number crunching
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Ability to work independently or with 'customers' to determine requirements, present findings and translate data into an understandable form
  • Strong attention to detail

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Database management (e.g., Excel)
  • Ability to understand and interpret medical charts
  • Experience in using computer-based tools (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Two years of data analysis experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skills: statistical analysis
  • Experience: Master's degree in related discipline, prior experience in healthcare or a higher educations setting; Epic, R & E experience; project management experience
  • Talents: Ability to think creatively and work independently, excellent team player
