EXEC DIR FINANCE & ADMIN OFFICE OF THE PROVOST
Duties: Reporting to the Provost for the University of Pennsylvania, the Executive Director of Finance and Administration is the senior finance and operations executive for the Office of the Provost. With direct responsibility for finance, budget, human resources, space and administration for approximately 40 administrative units, staff of 1,150, and $150M in budget resources, the Executive Director provides advice and counsel to the Provost on a broad array of academic initiatives and opportunities. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, serve as primary budget liaison to the university's 12 schools and 10 resource and administrative centers, reporting to the Provost; provide leadership to variety of ongoing and ad hoc University committees; act as point person for the Provost Office on Penn Integrates Knowledge (PIK) faculty hiring including facilitating resolution of complex multi-school issues related to recruitment of the most highly distinguished faculty members with academic homes in multiple schools; work collaboratively with FRES and School leaders to define priority space needs as well as to identify and negotiate for new space solutions for academic units; serve as member of Provost's Senior Management Group, provide strategic advice and guidance to University HR on employee benefits programs and their financial impact; supervise staff of five direct reports and seven indirect reports.
Qualifications: Master's degree, preferably in Business/Finance/Accounting, plus 10 or more years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in progressively responsible finance or administrative positions; previous experience in higher education strongly preferred; strong knowledge of budgets and the budgetary process; understanding of human resources principles and practices; strong computer skills; previous supervisory experience; strong oral and written communications skills; experience with capital planning; experience with strategic planning and developing strategic plans; experience with grant/gift administration strongly preferred; experience as a successful negotiator; knowledge of University of Pennsylvania accounting and budget strongly preferred.
