The Access Services Student Coordinator is responsible for supervision of Access Services student staff, ensuring student staffing of Information Desk for all operational hours. Works closely with the Access Services Manager in evaluating procedures and workflows to ensure a high quality of service to all patrons. Assists in Course Reserves Services. Provides Information Services Assistance. Oversees stacks maintenance.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Supervises, hires, trains, and schedules approximately 30 student assistants, 6 - 8 student supervisors and 3 stacks student assistants in library policies, procedures, and systems with a focus on customer service.
Collaborates with Information Services Librarians & Research and Instruction Librarians in basic information seeking training for student staff.
Monitors student compliance with the community services requirements of the Federal Work Study Program.
Assesses student assistant job performance through daily review of LibStats, job responsibilities rubric and other tools as appropriate.
Manages billing for patron fines and fees; manages student holds on accounts.
Maintains in-depth knowledge of all functions of the library’s circulation module and Microsoft Outlook Calendar.
Oversees stacks maintenance operations, ensuring timely return of items to shelves according to the Library of Congress classification system, all shifting projects, and overall organization of shelves.
Provides information assistance including in-person, telephone, email and chat.
Assists with retrieval of off-site items and delivery of library-owned materials to the WPI community.
Assists with Course Reserve services.
Produces statistical reports on student staffing and others as needed.
Manages alumni library card applications.
Participates in assessment efforts.
Assists in monitoring the safety of the building and its collection.
Participates in professional development activities that increase skills and contributes to professional activities.
Promotes image and awareness of WPI and the Gordon Library through external activities and community outreach.
Participates in library committees both on and off campus.
Oversees department, as needed.
Evening and weekend hours may be required.
Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in an academic library.
Experience with automated library systems, such as Ex Libris’ Voyager or ALMA.
Organization, time management and multitasking skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Outlook programs.
