ASSOC DIR OF COMMUNICATIONS & PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT
Duties: The Associate Director of Communications and Public Engagement (AD) performs a broad range of outreach and communication functions to promote the Wharton School Alternative Investments Initiative (AII). The AD reports to the Faculty Director of the Initiative and is a key member of the Initiative staff contributing to the execution of the Initiative's strategic plan. This role includes the development and execution of marketing and communications strategies for the Initiative, designing and organizing conferences, maintaining a working paper series, developing content and maintaining the AII web site, and working with External Affairs, alumni, and student clubs on events. The AD is responsible for delivering an extremely high caliber, diverse set of communication materials, events and activities. The AD will produce high-level communications with alumni and the public, newsletters, media packs, and build a presence on social media. This individual manages the Initiative's brand and marketing strategies, as well as AII media relations. The AD will proactively identify continental, alternative investments-specific issues that help to build the Initiative's brand and profile. The AD works with constituents across the School (particularly Marketing and Communications, and External Affairs) to effectively advocate for the needs of the Initiative. The AD will also plan and coordinate Initiative events, including the design and planning of annual conferences, alumni and awards dinners, campus student clubs collaboration, and regional events. This includes managing contracts with print and production vendors. In this role, the AD will collaborate with External Affairs colleagues to refine and adjust both the short and long-range goals for AII programs and initiatives. The AD will cultivate faculty, alumni, and external speakers for the Initiative's programs that will year-over-year increase Wharton alumni's engagement with the Initiative. The AD works closely with the AII Faculty Director, the Director of Financial Research of the Initiative to oversee the marketing of case studies in alternative investments. The AD will, as required, represent the Initiative and its mission to alumni, students, and other public audiences. The AD will support the AII website and social media presence through frequent WordPress design and content updates. They will produce quarterly reports, metrics, and benchmarks, on the AII web site performance. The AD will work closely with all members of the Initiative team to develop the Initiative's annual budget, monitor expenses, and complete all financial statement reconciliation for the Initiative's activities. The AD will work closely with all members of the AII staff and faculty to accommodate their participation in AII events, fundraising meetings, and media interviews.
Qualifications: BS/BA and at least 3-5 years of experience in marketing, media and communications roles (or an equivalent combination of education and related experience) is required. Significant project experience in marketing/communications as well as in event management is required. A minimum of two years designing and maintaining web sites is also required. Experience with communications strategies, large event planning, budget management, social media campaigns, and external relations/fundraising in a higher education environment is highly preferred. This position requires outstanding relationship management and communication skills. Project management skills, presentation skills, and expertise in web site and social media content management are strongly preferred. The incumbent will have a proven ability to work independently, be highly organized, and meet strict deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record as a high level contributor, collaborator, and self-starter. Willingness to travel (both domestic and international, on short notice for up to 1 week at a time throughout the year), and work in teams in the context of an innovative and entrepreneurial environment, are required for this position. Supervisory experience preferred.
