The Department of Neuroscience at the University of Virginia is seeking a Laboratory Technician 2 to conduct research in a laboratory that is using mouse models to study the pathogenesis of Huntington's disease with the goal of identifying potential treatments for this disorder. A successful candidate should be self-motivated, pay attention to detail, and have good organizational skills. A major responsibility of this position is to maintain our transgenic mouse colony and to genotype various strains of mice correctly using PCR. Other responsibilities include general laboratory management such as maintaining common stocks and equipment, ordering supplies, and preparation of shared reagents, as well as data entry and analyses using Excel, SigmaPlot, and Prism software. The learning of additional skills such as cryostat sectioning, immunohistochemistry, and western blotting etc. on the job will be encouraged.
A Bachelors' degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field is required. A minimum of two years of laboratory experience is required. Experience obtained as a student may be considered.
This position is restricted and contingent on the continuation of funding.
