Job Description Summary: The David E. Shi Center for Sustainability (www.furman.edu/shicenter) at Furman University, a private liberal arts undergraduate institution, invites applications for a Sustainability Program Coordinator beginning July 2017. The Sustainability Program Coordinator will coordinate and manage the award winning Community Conservation Corps (Furman's home weatherization program for low income homeowners in the greater Greenville community) and a range of curricular and co-curricular sustainability programs through the David E. Shi Center for Sustainability including the Greenbelt Living Learning Community (an engaged living community of 22 sophomore, junior and senior students aspiring to live more sustainable lifestyles), University Innovation Fellows Program, Campus Living Learning Laboratories, and Sustainability Student Camps and Conferences as well as help found an "Eco-Reps" style program in the residence halls. The Program Coordinator will report to the Associate Director of Sustainability Programs and will work closely with the Center staff to develop and implement a mission, vision, and strategic plan for the Center that aligns institutional priorities with the needs and interests of campus and community stakeholders. The Shi Center: Over the past few decades Furman University has established itself as a higher education sustainability leader. Sustainability has been infused across the university curriculum and campus operations and has served as a strategic pillar in our identity and mission. We aspire to have faculty and students engage in interdisciplinary teaching and research in conjunction with community organizations and leaders that aim at solving the regional sustainability challenges we face. The David E. Shi Center for Sustainability, named after Furman's 10th president, is an interdisciplinary academic center on campus that promotes the study and practice of sustainability on campus and in the greater community. A former Southern Living Showcase home, the Center was established in 2008 to foster collaboration among educators, students, and community leaders around real world and regional challenges that sit at the nexus of social, economic, and environmental systems. Minimum Qualifications: Experience with campus and community outreach (e.g., programming, events, communications). Experience writing, editing and copywriting. Excellent organizational and managerial skills. Ability to communicate effectively with others representing a variety of backgrounds/perspectives. Ability to manage and flourish in a team environment. Ability to take initiative and work independently. Ability to create high quality written and verbal communications. Experience in the use of office software, including website development, word processing and spreadsheets. Keen interest in sustainability and how weatherization affects both energy usage and the environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related sustainability field. Two-three years of experience in sustainability field. Experience in building science and contracting work.
Salary Grade: Level 5 $34,600.00 - $53,600.00
