Position Information: Reporting to the CFAO and in support of the initiatives defined by the Dean and Divisional Deans, the incumbent will initiate the development, planning, implementation & evaluation of a communications program for the College of Natural & Agricultural Sciences (CNAS). Reaching both internal and external audiences as appropriate, the program ensures wide-spread representation of the College's research, activities and accomplishments. The Director of Communications researches and gathers information to craft communications aimed at reputational enhancement and recognition of important events. As such, s/he works as a liaison with central campus offices including the Office of Strategic Communications and the office of Governmental & Community Relations to ensure that CNAS accomplishments are incorporated into the larger communication plans. The incumbent must have an interest in leveraging social media, including the ability guide the college through a comprehensive web redesign effort. The Director must possess the skills to maintain & bolster a CNAS web presence. The candidate must be hands-on and act as an able advisor to CNAS departments with the skills to write, edit, layout and proof brochures, newsletters and other publications in support of the teaching, research and service missions of the College. Finally, as a coordinator for all types of communications, the Director will represent the college at events and assist event specialist with support & readiness. Applicants will be required to submit a work sample as part of the selection process.
Minimum Requirements: Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications.
Experience with organizing and implementing special events.
Knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally.
Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to target and/or broad general audiences.
Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans.
Expert knowledge of graphic design, speech-writing and creating presentation materials.
Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications.
Demonstrated significant experience in developing and implementing a comprehensive web content strategy for responsive (mobile-friendly) devices.
Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in higher education and/or health sciences.
Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.
