The Financial Analyst reports to the Sr. Finance Manager and will assist with the financial operations for DCIE. This position will be a financial professional who has exceptional analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong organizational and time management capabilities. The Financial Analyst must demonstrate the ability to present business information to senior management in a manner easily understood by non-financial professionals. This individual will also have a moderate understanding of financial applications and creation of financial reporting. An attention to detail and insistence on the accuracy, timeliness, reliability, and usefulness of business information will be important requirements of the position.

The Financial Analyst will serve as a resource for other departments in fiscal operations and budget planning. The incumbent will assist with the interpretation of financial metrics and support any implementation plan process which is based on such metrics.

Specifically, the Financial Analyst will:
• Conduct financial and budget planning analyses; provide analyses to support decision making to senior management.
• Assist in building and maintaining financial models.
• Assist with the development of financial plans and incremental cost/benefit analysis; together with the Executive Director, prepare and periodically update long range financial projections.
• Present business applications to varied audiences in a manner clearly understandable by non-technical managers. Excellent communication skills – both written (narrative, tabular and graphical) and oral are critical.
• Extract data from various business application systems, provide and interpret detailed analysis; Present information at all levels.
• Analyze and coordinate the distribution of a variety of financial data and relevant reports in a clear, concise and timely manner; routinely perform variance and historical analysis; create financial, transactional and ad-hoc reports as needed.
• Prepare a standard reporting package incorporating key operating measures; present forecasts of expected actual performance against plan and/or prior periods.
• Assist with the development of annual budgets and quarterly and annual forecasts.
• Serve as a resource for other departments providing assistance to the Program’s Executive Directors/Directors and staff with cost analysis, fiscal allocation and budget preparation. Consult with departments regarding budget analysis, financial reports, reconciliations, irregular and unusual transactions and problem resolutions.
• Assist the Sr. Finance Manager with the completion of the entire DCIE Budget in Tidemark.
• Assist with the adherence to and execution of the DCIE’s annual budget in accordance with University Budget Guidelines and Policies.
• Responsible for supervising as well as serve as backup to the Accounting Assistant who will be responsible for the financial data processing including all business expenses, purchase requisitions, and preparation of journal entries for all of the DCIE units, in the current FRS and the new Workday Finance module. Supervises and assigns work to the Finance area’s student workers.
• Ensuring the appropriateness and accuracy of all financial transactions posted to all Divisional accounts to ensure the appropriate Cost Centers and program accounts are being charged in the new Workday Finance System.
• Participates in the Workday Finance Users’ Network as part of the effort to implement and validate processes used in the procurement and travel and expense reimbursement process.
• Responsible for all of the processing of monthly non-credit Faculty payroll transactions in Workday. Ensure the accuracy of these transactions and adherence to University of Miami Policies and Procedures.
• Responsible for creating and sustaining a collaborative work environment where personnel is treated respectfully, ethically and professionally at all times; responsible for building positive and productive relationships with colleagues at all levels and departments across campus.
• Support the Executive Director for Business and Finance and the Sr. Manager of Finance operationally and with other projects as needed.
• Performance, at the highest professional level, of all other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.

• A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field is required.
• Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience working in business finance, preferably in an academic and research setting. Some supervisory experience is required.
• Strong analytical skills required. Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word and Financial Systems) -- A combination of a strong background with computer application systems, accounting, and financial analytical skills are critical.
• Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, well organized with attention to detail, multi-task under time constraints and priorities.
• Appreciation required for organizational subtleties and a high level of discretion.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with talent to work across all functions and levels throughout the organization.
• Ability to work as a team required.
