Directs the development and implementation of marketing initiatives for high impact offerings, enabling programs, services, events and/or products to meet business objectives. May negotiate vendor relationships. Identify and implement process improvements. Direct cross-functional collaboration across the organization.

University Human Resources is a business unit at Stanford that includes several departments with employment-related services, programs and plans to support all employees (and official retirees). HR Communications manages the breadth of communications with many target audiences, including prospective employees, faculty, staff, retirees, many internal HR partners, and employees who are managers. The Sr. Communications Specialist is an integral member of the small but highly impactful HR Communications team, and your skills will be immediately utilized as we manage five websites, create employee and retiree newsletters each month, develop key messaging about important topics that frame the employee experience, manage the employee Facebook page, and put on employee connection events that are part of the “Cardinal at Work” identity. Your role will be to develop communication plans, write articles/emails/digital/web content, develop video scripts, execute communications across all channels, and partner with our internal stakeholders who collaborate with us to “get the word out” to our target audiences. Previous experience with employee communications is desired. Ability to plan and manage complex projects is required.

Note: Demonstration of your talents in communication planning and communication project management is required if you are selected for an initial interview; an online or print portfolio is required if you are invited to a second interview.

  • Develop, manage and execute strategic marketing plans/programs to meet business objectives.
  • Create and manage the execution of integrated communication strategy which leverages the brand strategy, incorporating appropriate channels (i.e., web, print, email, online).
  • Define and conduct market research, including employee surveys, competitive benchmarking, identification of market opportunities, and campaign/program/service/event analysis. Use the results to make strategic decisions.
  • Develop and execute marketing plans across the organization and/or university to educate and influence stakeholders.
  • Build partnerships with other school, department, product, service, program, and event and/or channel managers.
  • May oversee event management to support marketing objectives.
  • Manage internal client areas, as well as key vendor and consultant relationships.
  • Scope and manage project/program budget(s).
  • May oversee interns and other contingent staff; provide staff training.

    Education & Experience:
    Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior leaders.
  • Extensive knowledge of strategic analysis, customer segmentation strategies and business and marketing planning.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrated marketing strategy and execution across channels including digital; and print.
  • Demonstrated application of market research and data analysis.
  • Excellent project manager with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting to senior management.
    Certifications and Licenses:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork.
