The Department invites nominations and applications for the position of Regular, Limited-Term Assistant Professor with teaching emphasis in the area(s) of Mechatronics, PLCs, Computer Applications and Numerical Methods, and/or General Engineering Science.

Within this setting, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, which has 22 permanent faculty positions and over 1,200 students, offers undergraduate courses in the traditional sub-disciplines of mechanical engineering (energy science, materials and manufacturing, mechatronics, design and analysis), general engineering sciences, and graduate courses leading to a Master of Science in Applied Engineering (with concentrations in Energy Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, and Engineering Management). Both the curricular and the research activities of the faculty have a strong applied emphasis, bridging theory with practice, extending the learning environment beyond the classroom, and offering a student-centered environment enhanced by technology and transcultural experiences within private and public partnerships. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the mission of the department by developing and teaching primarily undergraduate-level lecture and laboratory courses.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of Mechanical Engineering, the limited-term assistant professor position requires teaching primarily at the undergraduate-level and minimal departmental and/or professional service. The successful candidates will be required to contribute to the department's on-going assessment and continuous improvement plan. All limited-term positions are non-tenure track, academic (9/10 month) year appointments. Appointments are for one year only, although there is the possibility of reappointment if funding should permit, the department has need, and the candidate has demonstrated satisfactory performance. (All reappointments are made on a one year basis.) The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned Ph.D., D.Eng. or equivalent terminal degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field by August 1, 2017.
  • B.S. (or equivalent) degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Effective English communications skills (verbal and written).
  • Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to teach undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses such as Mechatronics, Engineering Measurements and Instrumentation, PLCs, Robotics, Automotive Electronics, Numerical Methods, Computing Application, Capstone Design, and/or General Engineering Sciences.
  • Working knowledge of Labview, MATLAB, Excel-Visual Basic or similar engineering software.
