The Scientific Director will provide strong strategic leadership and direction in the following areas:

* Develop and grow effort in transplant research, including:
- Existing faculty development and retention
- Recruitment of new transplant research team members
- Program/center grant development
* Lead research strategy development and implementation with clinical and research transplant teams
* Oversee research related to transplantation from fundamental, basic sciences research to translational work and clinical trials
* Serve as a liaison with departments and centers regarding transplant related research including faculty retention, recruitment and grant development

The successful candidate will hold a MD and/or PhD or equivalent and will possess the following qualifications:

* National reputation in research with a focus that may include (but is not limited to) immunology and genetics, graft-host interactions, preserving organ health, bioengineering, chemical engineering and delivery methods/molecular therapy, and/or study of the microbiome.
* Established research program with over 5 years as Principal Investigator of NIH RO1 (or equivalent) funded investigation
* Experience with mentoring trainees (grad students, postdocs and fellows)
* Demonstrated mentorship of faculty and staff
* Demonstrated collaborative and facilitative skills
* Demonstrated leadership, administrative, organizational, and prioritization capabilities
* Demonstrated success building effective relationships with community organizations, external funding organizations, individual donors, and legislators
* Experience with recruiting and sustaining a diverse team preferred
