Position Summary: The Building Services Engineer has primary responsibility for the oversight, maintenance and inspections of the physical facilities of the Michigan State University Grand Rapids Research Center, a highly complex facility that performs cutting-edge research with regional, national and global partners. This includes maintenance of cost-effective and energy efficient systems for structural components, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, safety, and security systems. Initial responsibilities will include development of a comprehensive, needs-based plan for ensuring the continuity of operations of the building so it serves the needs of research and administrative faculty and staff. This includes working with MSU Purchasing for creating RFP's and review of operational services contracts with third party vendors for HVAC, elevator, electrical systems and exterior maintenance, and serving as liaison with university and external regulatory units and agencies. The position also assists with and/or oversees planning, estimating, inspecting, and analyzing the installation, construction, alteration, operation and/or repair of very complex mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic and/or computer based systems within the Grand Rapids Research Complex, which may include assistance with new facility related projects. The Building Services Engineer also assists in the formulation and implementation of safety policies and procedures related to the daily operations of the facility. The position is also the key contact and point person for facility related maintenance and promotes energy efficiency and other sustainability initiatives. The position is located at the Grand Rapids Research Center but occasional travel to other CHM campus locations will be required. Occasional early, late and weekend hours required. Must have valid driver's license.

Faculty: Minimum Qualifications Support Staff: Minimum Requirements Knowledge equivalent to that which is normally acquired in the first two or three years of college, technical or vocational school program in engineering, operations management or a related field with training or coursework in engineering, HVAC, mechanical and/or electrical systems; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in construction, supervision and management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; also requires computer and software aptitude, with an emphasis on word processing, spreadsheets, and AutoCAD software and ability to read blueprints; experience with budgeting and statistical data analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
